Detroit— Brendan Smith most very likely was great enough to create the red-colored Wings roster the previous two seasons. But there is no space to the defenseman.
Not anymore.
The red-colored Wings traded Mike Commodore toward Lightning on Monday for just about any conditional seventh-round choose in 2013, opening a place for Smith, who was promoted from Grand Rapids.
